About the customer

NGE (Nouvelles Générations d'Entrepreneurs) is a leading French construction and civil engineering group specializing in infrastructure projects. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, NGE undertakes large-scale projects that shape the future of transportation and urban development.

About the project

The national road 141 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine faced significant traffic congestion, with over 3,000 heavy trucks passing daily. To improve traffic flow and enhance safety, the DREAL (Regional Directorate for the Environment, Development, and Housing) commissioned NGE to construct an 11.3 km bypass between Roumazières and La Péruse, expanding the road to a 2x2 lane configuration.

This large-scale infrastructure project required a modern approach to optimize efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and minimize carbon emissions.

How NGE improved efficiency on the N141 Bypass project with Be.Smart solutions

CHALLENGES: Improving efficiency and sustainability

NGE faced multiple challenges in executing this major road expansion project:

  • Heavy Equipment Coordination – Managing 40 construction machines efficiently to avoid delays and unnecessary fuel consumption.

  • Environmental Impact – Reducing CO₂ emissions while maintaining productivity.

  • Data Management – Ensuring real-time access to project data and optimizing workflows across teams.

To tackle these issues, NGE needed a smart solution that could enhance decision-making and streamline operations on-site.

SOLUTION: Innovative software for real-time insights and efficiency

As NGE's trusted technology partner, ARKANCE provided an integrated, advanced digital solution to address project challenges, improve efficiency, and promote sustainability:

  • Site Productivity (formerly Holixa) – A first in France, this technology equipped 40 construction machines with connected devices to gather and analyze operational data in real time.

    • Improved machine utilization and minimized idling time for greater efficiency.

    • Reduced fuel consumption and lower CO₂ emissions, contributing to a greener project.

    • Provided real-time performance tracking, enabling better project oversight and decision-making.

  • Hiboo integration – Hiboo coupled with Site Productivity provided precise tracking of idling rates, anomalies, and overall efficiency, allowing for better resource management.

  • Site Management– Facilitated information distribution and improved coordination between teams. The online platform published all design data (plans, IFC, LandXML) and displayed real-time machine locations on a map.

  • Pointscene– Facilitated the storage and sharing of orthophotos via WMS links, improving coordination and decision-making.

RESULTS: A model for future infrastructure projects

  • Improved efficiency – Enhanced machine coordination led to smoother operations and minimized downtime.

  • Reduced environmental impact – Data-driven insights helped cut fuel usage and CO₂ emissions.

  • Optimized project management – Real-time data access and improved collaboration streamlined workflows.

Completed in December 2024, the N141 bypass project is a benchmark for smart, sustainable construction. By leveraging digital innovation, NGE has demonstrated how technology can drive efficiency and environmental responsibility in large-scale infrastructure projects.

This successful collaboration between NGE and ARKANCE highlights the future of road construction - smarter, greener, and more efficient.
