Find More Clashes in Revit with Be.Smart Cut Opening’s New Fabrication Category Support

October 22, 2025

The Be.Smart Cut Opening add-on for Revit just got more powerful - unlocking the support for new Revit categories and Fabrication Parts. Now it can process more with the same speed and precision, giving you wider application possibilities and smoother project coordination.

Read on to see what’s new.

Smarter, Faster Opening Generation with Fabrication Support

With the major engine and interface update, improving the opening generation workflow and speed, our team has continued expanding the tool’s capabilities to cover one of the most requested needs: support for more categories for clash detection and opening generation.

Our first choice of category for expansion was Fabrication Parts. Now, it doesn’t matter whether your model is built using Revit elements, Fabrication Parts, or a mix of both - Cut Opening will handle any scenario it encounters in your models.

Newly unlocked categories

  • MEP Fabrication Ductwork

  • MEP Fabrication Pipework

  • MEP Fabrication Containment

All elements within these categories will now generate the correct openings in your models.

We’ve also responded to frequent requests for openings around fire damper elements, which are typically found in accessories categories. These are now supported for both Ducts and Pipes.

Additional categories

  • Duct Accessories

  • Pipe Accessories

To start creating openings for any of these newly added categories, simply update your Cut Opening tool to the latest version and activate the categories in the Clash Settings

And for accurate opening sizing:

  • Both Fabrication and Accessories categories now apply Cut Offset values from your Cut Opening Configuration based on the element type and its largest connector size.

  • For MEP Fabrication Pipework, the rules from "Pipes: Other" are automatically applied.

Why It Matters

By including Fabrication Parts, the Cut Opening plugin for Revit bridges the gap between design and fabrication models. No more manual clash search, missed openings, or coordination gaps between different models.
Whether your project team works primarily with Revit families or Fabrication components, the workflow is now unified and reliable, reducing coordination time and potential errors.

In short, this upgrade helps ensure your openings are always accurate, automatic, and aligned — regardless of how the model was built.

Bringing It All Together

Just a few months ago, we introduced an enhanced Fabrication Parts support in our Be.Smart MEP Hangers tool, giving users the flexibility to place Revit family-based hangers directly on Fabrication Ductwork, Pipework, and Containment.

Now, with the Cut Opening tool joining in, both solutions work seamlessly together — from accurate openings to precise hanger placement, regardless of whether your model uses Revit or Fabrication elements.

Together, these updates move Be.Smart solutions for Revit closer to a fully connected workflow for design, fabrication, and coordination, helping project teams save time, reduce manual work, and keep models perfectly aligned across every stage.

Stay tuned — more Be.Smart enhancements are already on the way.
